HIGH WOLF (FRANCE) // BENOIT PIOULARD (USA) // THOMAS WILLIAM // SECRET BIRDS

Posted on: October 5th, 2012 by clare

SOUND SUMMIT, Spiral Sounds & Crooked Tapes present an international double header….

HIGH WOLF (France)

Fresh from multiple world tours, France’s High Wolf is hitting Australian shores for a September/October Tour in correlation with his headlining spot at Sound Summit. With a new album ‘Know Thyself’ on Sun Araw’s Sun Ark label and upcoming music on Not Not Fun, High Wolf’s miasmic loops and drones will be rolling across the country with a special appearance at Newcastle’s Sound Summit, and a night at
Sydney’s premier venue, The Square.

“Atlas Nation—recorded in 2010 after a long trip to India and Nepal—deepens High Wolf’s penetration into the mystic. “The Dawn of Man is a stark, stoned processional burrowing into malarial climes where guitars squawk in ominous tongues and congas cave in chests and clear brush with a vengeance. “Raagni magnifies and psychedelicizes Rapoon’s mantric, ritualistic hand-drum patter and tropical-forest drones while hinting at Don Cherry’s jazz-raga peregrinations. High Wolf claims that “Haiti was “recorded in a couple of hours [on] the day of the big earthquake in Haiti, so it’s the darkest/saddest HW track ever. It’s a fittingly miasmic, climactic threnody. “ – holymountain.com

BENOIT PIOULARD (USA)

Since a young age, Thomas Meluch aka BENOIT PIOULARD has been fascinated by natural sounds and the textures of decay. He began playing piano before his feet could reach the pedals, and for more than a decade has sought to create a unique sonic environment by combining remnants of pop song structures with the lushness and unpredictability of field recordings. A veteran drummer of a half dozen bands and an avid collector of instruments and analog devices, Meluch relies on guitar and voice as the bases for his work as Benoît Pioulard.

Donny Benét – ‘Electric Love’ Launch Party – Dinner & Show

Posted on: September 7th, 2012 by clare

Tickets: http://www.moshtix.com.au/event.aspx?id=59461

Support: Fishing

Donny is celebrating the release of his new album, Electric Love with a Dinner & Show set at Goodgod Danceteria on Friday September 7, release day! Chef to the stars, Andrew Levins will be whipping up a few special Donny Benét/Electric Love inspired dishes at The Dip. Then taking the heat from the grill to the dancefloor, Donny launches his new album of hip thrusting beats.

2011 saw Donny burst onto the scene with the release of his debut album Don’t Hold Back. Armed with a Drum Machine, Fender Rhodes and a Moog Synthesizer with a pitch bender that wouldn’t stop, Donny stepped up to the plate and delivered a sound full of sophistication, sexuality and street heat.

Electric Love reflects the highs and lows of life on the road through the eyes of a modern day Italo funk artist. Themes of heat, love, war and self-belief are played out in Donny’s latest offering.

It’s Friday night and everyone wants to have fun 1982 Italo style. Make sure you wear your Sunday best to give you the chance of success in the game of love.

Go on, treat yourself.

SOUND CIRCUS

Posted on: September 6th, 2012 by clare

The New Music Network, Jon Rose and the NOW now present: SOUND CIRCUS.
with Dale Gorfinkel, Sam Pettigrew, Rishin Singh, Laura Altman, Keg de Souza, Lucas Abela, Joel Stern, Jon Rose and Hollis Taylor.

Sound Circus is modelled on the traditional idea of a travelling circus, in which a dozen sound artists, performing or installing new and experimental music, explore the outback area known as ‘Corner Country’. This sonic odyssey will feature new and old technologies such as kite, fence, auto-drumming, and sonic sculpture projects intermingled with traditional instruments such as violin, double bass, vibraphone or clarinet in environmental contexts. The emphasis will be on live music that uses interactive technology, engages with the environment, and connects to the people who live in Corner Country.
Tour Dates: 6-19 September
Where: White Cliffs Arts Festival 6-9 September, Mutawintji National Park, Broken Hill School of The Air, Milparinka, Tibooburra, Cameron Corner, Innamicka, Strzelecki Track. All events are by donation; all donations go directly to The Royal Flying Doctor Service.
