“Motif affirms it´s position as one of the freshest, most open and uncompromising ensembles that has surfaced in Norwegian and European jazz the last decade.”
(Tor Hammerø, Facienda)

With members from such bands as Atomic, Free Fall and Streifenjunko, Motif is comprised of some of the premier musicians on the Norwegian scene. Their two latest recordings, 2010´s Facienda (3CD-set) and 2011´s Art Transplant received rave reviews in European and American press, making several exclusive best-of-the-year lists.

A decade into their tenure, MOTIF is still polishing the personal sound they have been meticulously shaping since the beginning, a sound labeled as “a remarkable combination of powerful writing, simpatico free play, and stylistic cross-pollination (John Kelman, Allaboutjazz).

The musicians unite from the very core of the Norwegian scene and are all key players in the young European improvising scene. Motif specializes in a shape-shifting, cheerily virtuosic strain of avant-garde jazz, and a staggering high standard of musicianship and musicality amongst its five core players. Not to be missed!

Atle Nymo (saxophones/ bass clarinet) Eivind Lønning (trumpet) Haavard Wiik (piano)
Ole Morten Vaagan (bass) Hakon Mjaset Johansen (drums)
