The Peoples’ Republic of Australasia is amazed to announce a winter Sydney performance by the phenomenal Robbie Avenaim (all the way from freezing Melbourne), along with some very special guests!
Over the past 25 years Robbie has combined traditional and extended techniques with physical modification of the drums. Modifications have included extending the use of the instrument with various motorised percussive mechanisms and amplification, and in so doing he has significantly expanded the scope for both composing and performing.
Robbie is also a founder and co-organiser of the What Is Music? Festival, Australia’s largest experimental and premier annual showcase of local and international experimental music since 1994.
The night will also feature, from Melbourne:
Erkki Veltheim - viola
Australia’s leading viola player in most genres of new music, a rare Sydney opportunity to hear this Melbourne-based virtuoso.
And from Sydney, local improvising musicians, all of whom have been featured at The People’s Culture Palace’s Solo Home Concert Series…
Jon Rose - violins
Jim Denley - wind instruments
Mike Majkowski - double bass
There will be short sets in various combinations from 6 pm precisely.
Admission is FREE, but RSVP is essential for this special event.
