The Now now Series #10

Kim Myhr (norway) – guitars
“Silence and sound define each other, although small enough musical sounds can blur the line between the two, creating that intensity of intermittent silence you might find in a rainforest. This is the area inhabited by Jim Denley (alto sax, flutes and electronics) and Kim Myhr (acoustic guitar, simple mechanics), whose free improvisations have the spontaneity, surprise and capacity to delight of birdsong. There is a gentle underscore of rustles and pops, out of which more strident sounds may suddenly burst, such as Denley’s luxuriantly breathy flute on Sonic Rockart, which is like some exotic bird, far above in the canopy. Immerse yourself in it on a still night, or use it ambiently.” John Shand – Sydney Morning Herald

Kim Myhr guitars, Jim Denley – wind instruments, Monika Brooks – piano accordian, Sam Pettigrew – double bass, Sam Dobson – double bass, Finn Ryan – percussion.

Posted on: October 25th, 2009 by clare

Oct 25 2009 – at Wentworth Falls TAFE

As part of the Footbeat Festival, to be held at Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains on Sunday Oct 25th, there is the Concerto-Interpreganza.

In this performance, the musicans will be taking requests – not to play songs, but to play ideas/concepts – in varying groupings (solo, duo, trio, and bigger ensembles).

Are you interested? There will be a little money in it (we have enough to pay $30 each to 30 musicians)

Get in fast! contact Ryko at ryko to register your interest.

There will be a mandatory rehearsal to be held before the event (date to be advised) – there will be two rehearsal opportunities – one in Sydney and one in the Blue Mountains.

Register your interest before September 26, 2009.

West Head Project // Middle Harbour Project

Posted on: October 25th, 2009 by clare

“We hear the alien quality of the non-human in our music and the humanity of music in nature.â€? – David Dunn.

Over the past three years this project has been presented at Ku-ring-gai National Park. In 2009 the project will continue the tradition although at a different location – Middle Head, the Southern Head of the inner Heads close to Manly and Balmoral. A weird and beautiful setting with spectacular views of the Harbour, the point offers an amazing group of abandoned military bunkers and gun positions that function as amphitheatres and weather proof areas. This is ideal for a performance where 2 – 3 spaces can be used at once and musicians and audiences can travel between the spaces. The Norwegian acoustic guitarist Kim Myhr (www.myspace.com/kimmyhrmusic), who Jim Denley has worked with extensively will be involved, as well as the Anaphorian percussionist Kraig Grady (http://anaphoria.com/).

(Kraig Grady, Kim Myhr, Peter Farrar, Monika Brooks, Jo Derrick, Adam Sussman, Jim Denley),

Date: 4pm Sunday 25 October 2009

The SMS-Interactive Music (SIM) Project brings together a world class group of musicians and technicians to develop an improvised collaborative performance technique. This technique involves improvised musical performance, technology and the audience as co-collaborators.

By creatively subverting readily available computer hardware and mobile phone technology, matched with the skills of our musicians, we will bridge the divide between audience and performers. Our goal is to facilitate an open interaction that has a high level of musicianship, thereby creating a new musical experience.

Concept – Fred Rodrigues
Max MSP Wiz – Claire Herbert
Software Writer - Ankur Badwhar
Performers – Hirofumi Uchino (aka Defektro), Adrian Klumpes, Kusum Normoyle, Abel Cross
